The Finance in Practice method
Every topic goes through four stages.
Stage 01
Learn
Each topic starts with the format that suits the candidate: independent study, tutor-led teaching, or a mix.
Stage 02
Solve
GARP practice questions are worked through in session. The candidate explains their reasoning, and the cause of each error is identified: concept, formula, interpretation, calculation, or timing.
Stage 03
Apply
Each topic ends with a short practical task, such as a VaR calculation, a hedge, a bond-pricing sheet, or a regression on market data.
Stage 04
Revise
Short, spaced reviews revisit earlier topics through recall quizzes, retried errors, and mixed question sets.
three ways to learn
Choose how each topic is taught.
Pick a mode per topic and switch whenever it suits you.
Mode 01
Self-study
Candidate studies the curriculum independently. Sessions focus on questions and weak areas.
Mode 02
Tutor-led
The tutor teaches the topic live, followed immediately by question work.
Mode 03
Hybrid
Candidate reads first. The tutor teaches only the sections that remain unclear.

- High priority30%
01. Valuation and Risk Models
Objective: Measure market, credit and operational risk, and value the instruments behind it.
Question work: VaR, duration, convexity, option-pricing and credit questions are reviewed. Calculation and model-assumption errors are diagnosed.
Deliverable: VaR and bond-risk worksheet with a stress scenario.
Live case
Compute parametric, historical and Monte Carlo VaR for a small portfolio and compare the results.

02. Financial Markets and Products
Objective: Understand how banks, funds and derivatives markets work, and how each product transfers risk.
Question work: Questions on forwards, futures, swaps, options and hedging are reviewed. Payoff, sign and day-count errors are diagnosed.
Deliverable: Hedge design note with payoff charts.
Live case
Design a futures hedge for a real exposure and measure how well it worked.

03. Quantitative Analysis
Objective: Use probability, regression and time-series tools to model risk.
Question work: Statistics, hypothesis-testing and regression questions are reviewed. Misread output and formula errors are diagnosed.
Deliverable: Annotated regression and volatility analysis.
Live case
Estimate volatility and correlation from real price data and test a simple regression.

04. Foundations of Risk Management
Objective: Explain how firms govern risk and what went wrong in the classic failures.
Question work: Concept and case questions are attempted first. The reasoning is checked against the framework the question is testing.
Deliverable: One-page case study on a risk-management failure.
Live case
Analyse a historical risk failure and map it to the governance lessons it teaches.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
How is this different from a regular FRM course?
A regular course teaches a fixed lecture plan to a group. This coaching is one-to-one and built around the candidate’s own attempts at practice questions. Each error is traced to its cause, whether concept, formula, interpretation, calculation or timing, and each risk measure is also built in a spreadsheet or Python.
Are sessions in person or online?
Both. Sessions are held in person in Abu Dhabi, or live online for candidates in Dubai, elsewhere in the UAE and abroad. Online sessions use a shared screen and whiteboard, so the question work is the same either way. The format can be mixed from week to week.
Is the GARP curriculum still needed?
Yes. Registered candidates receive the official FRM books and practice questions from GARP. Sessions are built around that material, not around separate notes. Finance in Practice is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by GARP.
Do I need to know Python?
No. Every topic can be done by hand and in a spreadsheet. Python is offered for candidates who want it, and it is never required for the exam.
Can coaching start at any time, and how are sessions priced?
Coaching can begin on request, with no fixed cohort start date. Sessions can be booked singly, monthly, or as exam-season support. Fees are discussed after the free Strategy Session, because the scope depends on the candidate’s needs.
Does coaching guarantee a pass?
No. Results depend on the candidate’s preparation and effort. Coaching improves the quality of practice by finding the cause of each error and a clear next step.
Is this for you?
Designed for committed FRM Part I candidates who attempt practice questions before each session and want personal guidance on quantitative and valuation topics. Not a passive lecture series, and no pass is guaranteed.
